Back in July, we told you that Lambeth Council were considering new regulations to relax their strict planning laws. On 14 September, they gave the go-head to these new guidelines in the form of Lambeth Building Alterations and Extensions Supplementary Planning Guidelines.
With house prices in London soaring, many Lambeth residents had been stuck in a rut where they were unable to improve and expand their home’s due to the council’s restrictive regulations, but were also unable to move, or unwilling to leave the neighbourhood they call home. This would leave them in need of space for their growing families, but without the means of obtaining it.
In answer to this, Lambeth Council have reviewed their planning guidelines and are now much more permissive, particularly in terms of loft conversions for non-heritage properties. You can download the full SPD from Lambeth Council’s website, but there are now more possibilities for dormers (that are subordinate), mansards and skylights, although there will still be some more stringent guidelines attached to heritage properties in the area.
