Brief: To add another large bedrooms and bathroom to a semi-detached property in Herne Hill, South London by adding a large hip to gable rear dormer loft conversion.
When Rachel and Andrew approached Simply Loft to initially quote and design their loft conversion space for them, the brief was to add as much possible space by converting their loft space into a large bedroom with dressing area and an extra bathroom. A loft conversion such as this example on Acland Crescent would add considerable space and value to this semi detached home in South London.
As a first step with any loft conversion the existing roof is removed and the dormer and in this case hip to gable part of the new loft conversion is added. Once this is watertight work can begin on the inside of the loft space, with the new flooring added and first fix plumbing and electrics. After this, any stud partitions are added marking out the new bedroom and bathroom areas. Plasterboard and plastering is completed next and second fix plumbing and electrics are finished.
The end result on Acland Crescent was a beautiful bright and airy bedroom with a large window and juliette balcony opening up on to the garden at the rear of the property. The new bathroom was large enough to house a bath and separate shower and tiled top to toe in beautiful grey tiles.
