Brief: Rear and L-shaped window mansard loft conversion to a semi-detached house creating one bedroom and one bathroom on Burlington Lane in Chiswick, West London.
This beautiful loft conversion on Burlington Lane in West London was a dream project to include in the Simply Loft portfolio. Our clients approached Simply Loft without pre-designed plans for their conversion, so we quickly handed them over to our architects to design their ideal loft conversion. After the clients have met with the architects, and the Project Manager has approved the final plans sent through for planning permission, the build start date can be set. Typically for a rear and L-shaped mansard conversion, the first steps of the build are to remove the current roof and lay the foundations for the new structure. It is a careful process, but here at Simply the process is never rushed and the client is kept up-to-date at all stages of the build.
There are lots of quirky aspects to this particular loft conversion, including the sloped walls which provide lots of different interior design possibilities. The slopes of the walls create their own designs, casting shadows which highlight the contours of the room. This creative effect can be emphasised with different lighting arrangements, either utilising the spotlights which our client opted for, or by adding lamps or warm lighting in other corners of the room. This is great for a child’s room, with the opportunity to create entirely different worlds with light globes that throw planets and stars onto the walls, or fairies for a magical kingdom, to inspire their imaginations.
For some, the addition of the bathroom could have been overwhelming when trying to convert a small loft, but this conversion has utilised all areas of the space available. The pale colours that have been used throughout the bedroom have been carried into the bathroom, brightening both spaces and making them appear more spacious.
The secret storage opportunities in this loft is also something to be spoken about. The small cubby-hole cupboards are great for storing anything that was in the loft prior to the conversion, or a great excuse to get something new! In-built furniture like the wardrobe in this loft, is a good way of maximising the space available to you, as any difficult walls can be covered with wardrobe doors or a tightly fitted cupboard.
