North West London Loft Conversion Case Study

Brief: Hip-to-gable rear dormer loft conversion to a property in Kensal Rise, Northwest London, creating two new bedrooms and a new bathroom.

Simply Loft was thrilled to complete this stunning, spacious loft conversion, creating two new bedrooms and a bathroom for our Kensal Rise, Northwest London clients. Our surveyors determined a hip-to-gable rear dormer loft conversion was the ideal type of conversion to dramatically increase space on this property.

The first bedroom is extremely spacious and is infiltrated with natural light from the classic styled casement window. The window allows an influx of natural light to the space, creating a bright open area. As a bedroom, the exposure to natural light not only compliments the features of the room but also positively impacts the inhabitant. Exposure to natural light improves our wellbeing by boosting our energy levels and decreasing our stress levels.

Our client has opted for a light, neutral style with white walls complimented by stunning oak panelled flooring. The introduction of natural light alongside the oak flooring creates a bright open space in the morning and an ambient setting in the afternoon and evening. Our client has chosen a minimalist design with their décor, as the room has been decorated with only a bed and bedside table. This room may be used as the master bedroom due to its floor space, however it would also be the ideal guest room, providing plenty of space for any guests. The room is also situated away from the existing bedrooms, providing any guests with privacy.

The staircase is in keeping with the existing style of the house and reflects the neutral, minimalist aesthetic our client has chosen. Our team specialises in seamless storage spaces that do not interrupt your new space; this loft conversion includes a built-in storage space atop the staircase. This provides our clients with the space to store items that may have resided in their previous attic space. As lofts are often used as storage space, it is important to consider storage options when designing your loft conversion; our team of architects will be able to discuss this with you during your design phase.

The second bedroom is also a large room that is currently being used as a child’s room. The new space has two stunning skylights that offer natural light and rooftop views. Loft conversions can become warm in the summer months, making ventilation a priority to many of our clients. Skylights can fully open, depending on their design and style, offering ventilation to your new space, while also functioning as a stunning feature to any loft conversion.

A large bathroom has also been installed in the space between the two bedrooms, providing convenient access to both occupants. Our clients have designed a stylish monochromatic bathroom using grey and neutral tones to create a clean, sleek aesthetic. Grey tiles are contrasted with white tiles to create a chic design across the bathroom wall. The shower has been placed in the corner of the room to maximise space and has an accessible alcove to house toiletries. The casement window has been frosted for privacy and offers important ventilation to the space. A floating sink vanity has been installed for storage and is in keeping with the bathrooms design.
