Brief: Rear dormer loft conversion to an end-terrace house on Palestine Grove, Merton Abbey, South London, creating one extra bedroom and a bathroom.
Talking money
As all our loft conversions are 100% bespoke and built to each customer’s needs, prices can vary significantly from one loft conversion to the next, even for the same type of loft conversion. Consequently, in order to give a fully accurate cost breakdown, we conducted a free site survey on the property, providing our client with a free, no obligation quote.
After surveying the property, a rear dormer loft conversion was deemed most appropriate for the end-terrace house. Dormer loft conversions are built to protrude out of the existing slope of the roof, creating a more usable space with additional headroom. Averaging at around £35,000, dormer loft conversions are amongst the most popular type of loft conversion in the London area. You can read more about dormer loft conversions here.

After agreeing upon a price, our team of architects and structural engineers got to work producing a set of designs for submission to Merton council for approval. Once the plans were approved, the project was handed over to the construction team to set the build phase in motion.
Scaffolding was erected externally to the house, allowing the roofing team to set about removing the existing roof and replacing it with a new loft conversion roof to the rear end of the property.
A new space for work
Our client decided to make full use of the space, creating both a home office and a space for home-schooling. When it came to choosing new loft flooring, our client opted for a soft, plush carpet to create a warm, cosy space.
If you are considering a loft conversion, and are unsure of which loft flooring to go with, you can read more from this handy guide we’ve produced.
A double set of skylights were installed to flood the room with natural light and open up the clean white space.
To make an efficient use of space in the new bathroom our client opted for a space-saving, narrow sink, and matching toilet. An all-white theme was introduced to produce the appearance of a lighter and larger room.
Our clients on Palestine Grove were very pleased with the loft that we created and are enjoying the extra space that has been produced.
