Brief: Rear dormer loft conversion in Wandsworth to a 1st floor flat, creating one new bedroom, one new bathroom & a roof terrace.
Simply Loft was excited to complete this rear dormer loft conversion in Wandsworth, Southwest London, creating a new bedroom, bathroom, and roof terrace for the London family. Our surveyors determined a rear dormer and roof terrace was the most suitable conversion to maximise space and create a new outdoor space.
The first bedroom is a spacious room that has been used as lounge and office space with sofas and a desk area. The room has two stunning skylights installed in the eaves for the ultimate infiltration of natural light. The skylights offer beautiful views while also opening the room, creating a bright, open space. Two sofas have been used to furnish the space, allowing our clients to utilise the room as a lounge area and office area. This new space can make the perfect at-home office for remote workers as the space provides separation from the rest of the property, maintaining the boundary of home and work. The room also has a Juliet balcony with patio doors and a glass balustrade. This offers ventilation to the room and a further increase in natural light. Juliet balconies are a great way to gain stunning rooftop views while also being able to access the outdoors.
A roof terrace connected to the new loft conversion has been installed a few stairs above the new room, accessible by a small landing space, and has created a new outdoor space for our clients. As garden space is often limited in London properties, a roof terrace added at the same time as a loft conversion can be the ideal option for those looking for additional outdoor space. With patio doors, the upstairs floor can be well ventilated with fresh air. Our client has currently left the roof terrace unfurnished, allowing them the choice to decide what they’d like to use the terrace for. Some may wish to use it as an outdoor dining space, while others may prefer space to exercise. It is important to note that not all loft conversions are suitable for roof terraces as they can depend on local planning regulations. Our team of architects and surveyors will be able to determine if your property and area is suitable for a roof terrace.
The space is also an ensuite, creating a new bathroom space for the family. The bathroom is a simple, classic design with a toilet, sink and shower space. Our clients optioned for a neutral, classic tile that offers a timeless design. They have also opted for dark wood panel flooring. Creating an additional bathroom space as part of a loft conversion allows the room to be used as a guest room if needed, offering a separate bathroom to the existing ones. If the space is used for an office, it also removes the requirement to go downstairs to use the bathroom, making it incredibly convenient.
