Brief: Rear dormer loft conversion on a mid-terrace house to create a bedroom and a bathroom.

The client based in London, Streatham wanted a loft conversion with a bedroom and a bathroom. Our surveyors identified that a rear dormer loft conversion would be the best fit for their mid-terrace Streatham house for the conversion desired.

A dormer loft conversion provides good head height and can add another 50 cubic meters of extra space! Because of this, we find dormer loft conversions to be one of the most popular types of conversions.

With the Juliet balcony, not only does the bedroom flood with natural light, but it also allows for better, more scenic views than a window and puts the client in control of their own privacy without compromising on safety and lack of insulation. The doors are sliding and double glazed, fitted with white UPVC. The client opted for a white design and when paired with the natural light the Juliet balcony offers, the illusion of extra space is created, making the room feel and look bigger.

The Velux skylights in the bedroom also allow for extra floods of natural sunlight, allowing the client to be in control of their ventilation and room temperature, but the clever design of the eaves allows for every inch of space in the room to be filled and utilised. Bespoke closets are fitted on either side of the eaves to allow for stylish storage space.

The bedroom’s white walls and clean design also allows for adaptability, meaning the room can be changed to new tastes and trends, truly capturing personal expression and individuality. Although, the choice of white only extenuates the monochromic design featured in the bathroom. The use of alternating whites, greys and blacks in monochromatic colour palettes forever deliver a timeless, inspirational design that always feels pure and welcoming which can be perfect for a guest bedroom.

Not only is the bathroom well ventilated with an extractor fan, but its design is gorgeous. It has a beautiful marble design as a feature wall against the shower and sink basin, while the white walls and black bathroom cabinets and floor tiles finish the monochromic design the client has chosen. The marble is a popular and classic choice. Not only is it elegant, but it is also timeless and adds value to any kind of property. Black connotes stability, while white represents cleanliness – all of which are fitting colours for a bathroom.

The staircase follows a classic white handrail design, fitted with modern and attractive glass panels. The use of glass creates reflections to minimise shadows within the stairway. This allows the space to feel much more spacious and open. The glass itself is fitted and held in place by clamps with a silver finish, which only further complements the loft conversion’s monochromic design to keep it consistent throughout.
