Simply Loft took on this project in Streatham last year for our clients who wanted to revitalise their loft space into a new living area for their family. As a full design and build project, our architects were pleased to create the plans for this project before handing them over to one of our building teams to construct. This rear dormer loft conversion fitted within permitted development regulations and therefore did not need planning permission from the local council.
A Style to Suit Everyone
This loft conversion interior is simplistic, focusing on a grey colour scheme that is carried from the bedroom through to the ensuite. The Velux skylights bring in plenty of light onto the bed, which has been slightly tucked away under the eaves of the loft conversion. The casement window on the rear of the dormer helps to separate the room into two parts, with the bed in one section and a dressing area on the other getting more natural light.
By keeping the colour scheme simple, our clients have made this space attractive for all, being suitable for a son, daughter, parent or guest. The room can be easily personalised by changing the bedspread or showcasing some colour like they have done with the cushions on the bed.
The Ensuite
The ensuite features patterned grey tiling on the floor and a black framed shower to keep with the grey colour scheme. White is always a popular option for a shower room as it makes the room feel clean and energising. Our clients decided to tile the whole of the ensuite walls, to make it that much easier to keep clean and fresh whilst also looking sleek. A particular feature to note is the internal sliding door that connects the shower room to the bedroom, which is great if you are low on space in your loft.
For most rear dormers, an ensuite can be installed under the eaves which allows you to have a skylight in your shower room. In this loft conversion, the ensuite has not been built under any eaves, which allows our clients to choose from different window options.
Maximise your Storage
You can see the in-built storage cupboards under the Velux skylights, which is a common way of maximising the space you can get from a loft conversion. You can retain some of the storage space you had prior to converting the main section of the loft into a bedroom or living area.
