For increased living space, or your own personal enjoyment, loft conversions in London are probably the most effective and affordable home improvements.

We recently ran a survey, and more than 600 Londoners were asked which aspect of their home they’d most like to change. Incredibly, just 8% of them chose their loft. But for all of the reasons they wanted a change, loft conversions are actually the best bet.

When asked for their motivation to modify their home, a whopping 66% cited personal enjoyment. Translation: making their house into a home.

A bespoke loft conversion in London can transform a dormant loft space into your favourite room in the house. Better yet, it can be used for just about anything you can think of. Gone are the days of the loft conversion as little more than an extra bed and maybe an en suite shower. Modern Londoners are thinking outside the box, creating noise-proofed music studios, meditation spaces, offices and studies.

If you can dream it up, we can bring it to life; your own safe haven from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

After personal enjoyment, the next motivating factor for home improvements is the need for extra living space. With London house prices flying upwards at an alarming rate, families can’t simply pack their bags to find room for children and lifestyles. Instead, they’re being priced out of the housing market, and opting for home improvements.

Of course, space in London is already at a premium. For many who don’t have room for a home extension, the only way is up. Loft conversions help to expand the high quality living space available from a home; and they’re available for a fraction of the cost of moving house.

When we asked our survey respondents what discourages them from making home improvements they voted overwhelmingly for expense. The good news for these people is that loft conversions are considered the most affordable refurbishments available.

Some 11% of participants said that inconvenience put them off making a change to their home. But since the majority of a loft conversion project takes place from a scaffold, with limited intrusion to the inside of the home. Customers can still live there during the process. A further 9% said they didn’t have time but loft conversions can be completed in as little as 4-8 weeks.

A final thought: when asked which home improvements they’d like to make if money were no object, more London residents chose a loft conversion than a swimming pool, games room, home cinema, conservatory or gym. Little do they know that a loft conversion might not be a cloud-nine proposition.
