Brief: Half a skylight loft conversion with internal refurbishments creating two new bathrooms and an additional bedroom. This conversion was to an original second floor in an end terraced house situated in a conservation area in Tooting.

For this property, the best option for our clients was to have a half skylight conversion, due to the existing layout of the house and the restrictions in place for the conservation area it is situated within. Conservation areas have various restrictions and guidelines one must follow to change the structure of a house situated inside it, with planning permission from the local council always being required.

This loft conversion has provided this home with another bedroom and two refurbished bathrooms, adding value to the overall cost of this house. The bedroom is spacious, with a long but thin shape, and the slope of the eaves finishing relatively high on the exterior wall. This has allowed the maximum amount of headspace possible throughout the room, making it a cosy but comfortable living space. Our architects will have designed this space to meet the criteria of the local council, meaning a rear dormer or mansard loft conversion were not possible for this house. Our architects have still managed to create a beautiful, spacious room in light of these restrictions.

This room is bespoke in many different ways, with bespoke storage options to compliment the sloped eaves. The wardrobe slots underneath the smallest part of the loft bedroom, which would typically be dead space due to the reduced headspace. There is additional storage underneath the eaves in the form of cupboards down the length of the room. These sneaky storage spaces are great to store any belongings that were stored in your loft space before the conversion.
