Brief: Hip-to-gable rear dormer loft conversion to an end-terrace house in Twickenham, not in a conservation area, creating a new bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.

Simply Loft have recently completed this stunning hip to gable rear dormer loft conversion in Twickenham, which provided our clients with a spacious new bedroom. This loft conversion is unique to others we have completed, with the staircase opening into the main room rather than leading up to a door. The fire door has been located at the base of the stairs instead, to meet building standards. It is creative and quirky, and we love it!

As you walk into this new space, to your left at the front of the house is a small bedroom area which has two sash windows lighting up the bed space. The sash windows bring in lots of natural light into this section, which is supplemented by six down lights. Above the stairs is a pendant light, which showers the stairway with warm light, lighting up the frames going up the walls. It is a small but effective touch, being a subtle yet pretty way of lighting the stairway.

To the right of the stairs is the rest of the main bedroom, with a large dressing area that is perfect for a guest bedroom. The slope of the roof has been utilised in the furniture placement, with a tall wardrobe at the highest point of loft, and a chest of drawers towards the shorter head space. Underneath the eaves is a crafty storage cupboard which can be used to store any belongings that we originally being kept in the loft. Your surveyor will be able to discuss all the different types of storage options available to you when they visit your home for a site survey!

The bathroom in this loft conversion is spacious and bright with a large skylight in the sloped roof. An ensuite’s bathroom fits perfectly underneath the sloped eave of the front roof, with many ways to utilise the space requiring different head heights. The mirror above the sink has its own in-built light, but there are also downlight’s along the thin ceiling segment above the skylight too. With a spacious shower area like this, any guest would love to stay in this home! The neutral and calming colour scheme of the bedroom flows through to the bathroom, to create a cohesive new floor to the home.

The staircase itself is simple, with a wooden railing and cream carpets. However, they create a big impact in the room, making it feel somehow more spacious and open. The loft space now effortlessly transitions into the rest of the house, which is exactly what many of our clients want. Whilst it may not always be possible to have a stairway entrance like this, it is certainly worth asking about.
