Brief: Rear Dormer loft conversion, on a detached two-storey house, not in a conservation area, to create a master bedroom, one ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe room.

The client based in Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, wanted a loft conversion with a bedroom ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe room. Our surveyors identified that a rear dormer loft conversion would be the best fit for their detached two-storey house for the desired loft conversion.

The bedroom area features not only stylish storage units but also a Juliet balcony. The double-glazed Juliet balcony allows the bedroom to flood with natural light, but it also allows for better scenic views than a window would offer. The occupants of the room can also take charge of their own privacy without compromising on insulation and safety. The doors are fitted with white UPVC and when paired with natural light and the beige colour of the room, the illusion of extra space is created, making it both feel and look bigger.

The colour beige is a mix of warm brown and a cool white. Beige is often associated with being dependable and relaxing while connoting stability, flexibility, and adaptability. In short, this allows the client to easily decorate the bedroom how they see fit as tastes and trends change over time. The wooden storage units have been built with space in mind and are placed cleverly under the eaves. This allows for the dead space to be useful, as now the space has been turned into an area for storage.

The white double-glazed UPVC skylights have also been built into the eaves, allowing for the flood of natural sunlight similarly to the Juliet balcony. Building the skylights into the eaves not only provides the occupants of the room, even more, privacy but also allows the room to make use of a space that otherwise would be difficult to make something out of. Because they have been built on the eaves, it also captures the natural sunlight at the perfect angle to flood the light into the room, providing warmth and a boost in wellbeing.

Not only is the bathroom well ventilated with an extractor fan and window, but the tiling used in the bathroom adds a stylish splash of personality – all while adding value to the client’s home. The pale blue used to colour the walls can represent both tranquillity and cleanliness. However, blue is also cooling in nature all while going hand in hand with balance and self-expression. When paired against the grey tiles and cabinet, a contrast is made leaving the bathroom look pleasing to the eye and an interesting place to be in. Light grey also connotes both neutrality and balance.

The shower door and panels installed into the ensuite are made from glass. This allowed the shower to have an open and modern design. The use of glass panels on a shower makes the bathroom look larger; no matter how small the space, as it helps to create reflections to minimise shadow. If a bathroom lacks natural light, glass panels and doors for a shower should be considered.
