London Loft Conversion Project Case Study
Brief: Rear Dormer loft conversion, to a terraced house in Sydenham, South East London. This project created two spacious and bright bedrooms, one with an ensuite bathroom.
Our clients based in London, wanted a loft conversion with a master ensuite bedroom and a spare bedroom. The first step was to invite one of our Simply Loft surveyors to their home where they carried out a full site survey. Our surveyor identified that a rear dormer loft conversion would be the best fit for their terraced house for the amount of space they needed from their loft conversion. Dormer loft conversions are wonderful at fully maximising the space available and our surveyor was able to recommend that two rooms and a bathroom could be added to this wonderful loft conversion.
Our client used Simply Loft for a full design and build project, meaning that not only did we design their desired loft conversion, but we also built it too! Once our construction teams were finished at our client’s home, the final loft conversion was everything they had hoped for. Walking up the stairs to this loft conversion, you are welcomed by a beautiful, exposed brick wall, complemented by some wonderful colourful artwork and large mirrors which have maximised the light levels in the hallway, which are usually considered as darker areas of a house.
The ensuite bedroom area features not only stylish, built-in storage but a beautiful large industrial steel window. The double-glazed industrial steel window allows the bedroom to flood with natural light, and it also allows some stunning scenic views of the surrounding area. Our clients requested that the main bedroom had a spacious seating area, located in front of the window which would be perfect for relaxing! The beautiful room has been designed with a chic, rustic style in mind. The gorgeous rustic wooden bed frame complimented by the tones of the bedroom has created a space where feeling relaxed and comfortable was put at the forefront of our clients mind. Decorated with plants, every detail of this space has been thoughtfully placed to create a style that will be both practical for the client, as well as breathtakingly stylish.
Not only is the bathroom well ventilated with an extractor fan and window, but the tiling and colours used in the bathroom adds a stylish splash of personality as well as correlating with the theme of the bedroom. The pale pink used to colour the walls can represent both tranquillity and cleanliness. When paired against the marble style tiles, a contrast is made, leaving the bathroom look pleasing to the eye and an interesting place to be in. The clients have also opted for some plants for decoration in the bathroom, which again tie in with the theme of the bedroom. Decorating your home with plants not only adds colour to a space, but also has benefits of purifying the air, boosting mood, and relieving stress and anxiety.
Along the hallway, is the spare bedroom. This beautiful light and airy space has been complimented by both the feature wall colour and the Velux windows. The clients have opted for a feature wall on the side of the bedroom, where the contrast of the green and the white walls has worked well in creating a lighter space, whilst adding personality and style. The green has also created a perfect spot for the light from the Velux windows to hit, creating bright reflections into the bedroom.
Our clients have opted for a double bed right in the corner of the room, allowing a large amount of floor space, which is perfect for extra storage. The space between the bed and the floor space has been broken up by a beautiful rug. Rugs are also a great way to add warmth and a cosy feeling to a bedroom in a loft conversion.
